The purpose of Project Communications is to:
- promote a shared understanding of the vision for the project, the strategies used to achieve that vision and the benefit and outcomes for the organization
- provide timely, appropriate information to relevant stakeholders on project status
- provide crucial links between people, ideas, and information, which are necessary for success
- actively involve and engage all identified stakeholders
- provide impacted stakeholders with an understanding of the proposed changes and what those changes will mean to them
- provide an opportunity for stakeholders to ask questions and address concerns
- build energy and momentum to support the project.
Project monitoring and controlling toolkit
Ensures project objectives are met through the regular measuring of progress to identify variances from the plan and the application of corrective action when necessary.
PMBOK describes monitoring and controlling as “ensuring that project objectives are met by measuring progress regularly, to identify variances from the plan so that corrective action can be taken when necessary”.
The purpose of Project Monitoring and Controlling is to ensure that all project objectives and deliverables are delivered in accordance with the Project Plan and schedule.

The purpose of the Progress Reporting process is to:
- ensure that project performance is being monitored on a regular basis
- ensure stakeholders are kept up to date as to the progress of the project, including timelines, costs, issues, risks and changes.
